The Expanding Definition of Wellness

To me, wellness is not a perfect routine, or another thing to “achieve.” Wellness is the practice of returning to ourselves, our community, our friendships, and all our relations again and again through the ever-evolving medium of our body, our breath, our senses, and our shared world.

It is the moments I soften long enough to feel the ground beneath my feet, hear the ocean's siren song alongside me, and remember that we are not at all separate from life, or one another.

Wellness is nervous system care. It is a deep and abiding devotion self-honoring. It is the remembrance of inward gazing before the world tells us how to look, think, be.

Through Oceana Yoga, I offer the practices I frequently come home  to as pathways back into my innate inner wholeness.

A slow yoga practice can soften the heavy, chained armor we didn't even realize we were wearing.
A sound bath can invite the mind to unwind.
A dance by the sea can help ancient emotions move through the body like weather, rather than getting trapped inside us.

These practices are not about becoming someone new, but rather, uncovering what has always been just below the surface soil: presence, vitality, tenderness, strength, and a deep sense of belonging.
Wellness, to me, is also communal. It is the subtle yet miraculous heart-coherence of gathering on the beach, with open sky smiling down to us, with fellow beings who are willing to breathe, move, feel, and remember together.
It is luxury in the truest sense: spaciousness, beauty, safety, and connection.
My hope with Oceana Yoga is to create experiences that feel both grounding and expansive, where every body is welcome, where healing feels human, and where the ocean reminds us that we can always begin again. 🌊
